kale recipe

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

You know I don't really like to cook. It's probably because I'm not any good at it. But, when I do find a recipe that is easy and good, I like to share.

Kale seems to be the health food of the moment. We have tried it steamed, and have even baked to make kale chips. Last night, I made creamed kale. I think I saw a recipe for it in a magazine, but ended up using this one I found online. It looked a little healthier as far as the cream part goes.

{Pic from website}

You can find the recipe here.

It's quick, easy, and doesn't have a ton of ingredients. When I make it again, I will up the cream and cheese just a tad, or reduce the large amount of kale. :)

I grabbed a rotisserie chicken, baked some sweet potatoes, and made stovetop stuffing. Made for a great week night meal. By the way, I forgot how GOOD & easy stovetop stuffing is!!!

baby sleep sacks

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

I am a BIG fan of sleep sacks and swaddles. From day one, Charlotte was either swaddled in a blanket, or one of the swaddles above. She really slept great, and it kept her from scratching herself, and waking herself up with arms flailing.

Since you put babies on their backs to sleep, swaddles are great. Around 3 or 4 months, Charlotte starting flipping to her stomach. We decided to stop swaddling her, since they need their arms free. She is a bona fide stomach sleeper now. We decided to transition to sleep sacks as opposed to putting her down in footed pjs. Since you can't use loose blankets, sleep sacks are great.

Charlotte's night time wear consists of a long sleeved, white onesie, and a sleep sack. I think it seems cozier, and more like sleeping under a blanket. So here are the contenders. I added the swaddles, even though we are out of them.

1} Aden & Anais Swaddle Blankets - This is a great line of products. All items are made with a super soft and breathable muslin fabric. You can find Aden & Anais are various places, and now in Griffin at my new baby booth! These blankets also make great stroller blankets. I always have one nearby.

2} Miracle Blanket - This is a great option for babies that bust out of traditional swaddles. It really keeps their arms in.

3} Summer Infant Swaddleme - Another option, that is super easy. Has velcro, and you can change diapers without taking the entire thing off. We used these a lot.

4} Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack - These are a sleep sack, and swaddle in one. Charlotte liked these too. You can take the swaddle piece off, and just use as a sack too.

5} Halo Sleepsack - This is a basic sleep sack. I like the thinner cotton ones. I never did the fleece, because I worried she would get too hot. We try to keep the room cool at night.

6} Aden & Anais Sleeping Bag - My all time favorite sack because they are super long. If you have a tall baby, you will find they outgrow sleep sacks fast. Charlotte is in a small, and is just now starting to fill it up. The small is up to 6 months, and she is a tall 8 month old. These are a single layer of muslin, and very breathable. They have been great during the summer.

7} Aden & Anais Cozy Sleeping Bag - Same as above, but this one is four layers of the soft muslin. We have a medium, and will probably start using it now since it's chilly out!

As I mentioned, I am now selling the Aden & Anais brand. I can order sleep sacks, and they come in a great variety of colors and patterns. I am doing a "baby booth" with a friend at Gigi's Antique Griffin. It's in the works, and I will be posting pics soon.

Serenbe

Monday, October 15, 2012

Today is Charlotte's 8 month birthday!! This is all happening very fast. She is not officially crawling with her legs, but she is scooting all over the place. Baby gates are now in place. As of last week, she can now pull up and stand while holding on to something. I just googled that, and I think we are about a month early. No more rest for this mama. At least with all of her newfound freedom, she is still sleeping like a champ.

You can see some pics on my instagram sidebar. We visited the horses this weekend, it was so nice outside. I seem to be walking more because of the weather, and now that baby C is riding in the Bob without the carseat, she enjoys it more.

Anyway, on to Serenbe. I have posted before on Serenbe, the development in south Fulton Co. One plus of living in a central location like Griffin, we can take great day trips. On my way to Serenbe, I passed the Boneyard. It's an antique/furniture/booth style store similar to Gigi's Antique Griffin. It's cool, I recommend going. And they have a booth at Scott's. I digress...On the way to Serenbe I also drove through Senoia, which has become another favorite excursion spot. You can really hit up a lot of cool shops.

Serenbe had some new shops since I had been last. I met up with a few old pals, and we celebrated a baby boy on the way for one of my friends. Since this is her second baby, we had a "sprinkle" instead of a "shower." That's the new lingo. We decided that if she goes for baby number 3, we will have a "mist."

After brunch at the hil, we walked around some of the shops. We also toured the Bosch Net Zero idea house. Here's a link to see the inside furnished. It was vacant when we saw it.

We also went in Fern's Market.

Which is were Jennifer found this book, In My Barn.  Charlotte loves it. :)

Then I took some pics while cruising out.

Love this contemporary house. I think because of the rock, and the setting. It's like an urban farmhouse.

New Blog Design

Sunday, October 7, 2012

I'm so pumped that my new blog design is finally live! If you read the old blog in your email, be sure to click and check it out. I was an easy process. My blog designer is Carolyn V, and you can find out more about her here.

You know I had to keep my signature colors, green and gray. And, we went with the diagonal gray stripes in the background to match my chestnut lane cards. The little green chair pic turned out just the way I envisioned it.  Some other changes include my bio pic. I cropped baby C and Charles out, cause you know I can't have the babe on the interwebs! The pic was taken by Cindy at Stansberry Photography. Another change/addition is a preview to my instagram pictures. I love instagram, and have actually been posting pictures of Charlotte there, BUT you can not identify her. Only shots from the side or behind. Kind of reminds me of the neighbor, Wilson, from the show Tool Time. Who's with me on that ??? Anyway, you get to see some of her, that's all I can do.

And last, you will notice the button on the sidebar, "Visit the Shop." That will take you to my inventory page of what's currently for sale at my booths. I am trying my best to keep updated, and although it's a lot of my stuff, it's not all so be sure to check them out.

And in other news, I have a new booth coming to Gigi's Antique Griffin. It will be shared with a friend, and will be a much smaller space. Deets to come.....

I hope you like the new blog look. Stay tuned folks.

new chairs

Friday, October 5, 2012

I just have done a little chair transformation, and now they are for sale in the booth at Gigi's Antique Griffin.

I've had these chairs for awhile, and they used to be black and covered in a completely different fabric. While I was having Charlotte's nursery painted, I had the chairs sprayed a nice off white color. Today, I picked them up newly reupholstered from Todd who is located inside the Antique Griffin.

In the pictures the fabric looks like a solid, but really it's a green/off white herringbone print that comes off pretty neutral.

The seat and back cushions have zippers for easier cleaning.

And there are a few new small things in the booth for you to check out!
