DIY Burp Cloths

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Recently, I pulled the old sewing machine out, and tried my hand at making some "baby stuff." Turns out burp cloths are pretty easy to make, so I made a ton. Here are a few that I made, and kept. I also made some that are in my booth at Shop@11th.

The top one below is made from extra nursery fabric. These are also great for using scraps of leftover fabrics. I added little ribbon tags just because I like ribbon, and have a ton!

I found all of my fabrics at Joann Fabric in Brunswick. I also made a stroller blanket that clips on the carseat, so it's easy to move around while walking.

Here's what you will need if you want to make some too!

{1} cloth diapers - I have some of the thicker ones, probably from Babies R Us, and some thinner ones from Wal-Mart. You can find similar ones here and here.

{2} fabric - I bought 1/4 yard of each fabric, and that it enough to make two of these

{3} matching thread - can find at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Joann

{4} sewing machine

{5} iron

First, I measured the thicker, center portion of the cloth diapers. Then I cut the fabric to allow about a half inch hem on each side. Next, I ironed the seams down to make it easier to sew a straight line. After your thread is ready in the sewing machine, it's super fast to sew the cute fabric onto the diaper.

My sewing skills are very basic, so these are definitely quick and easy to make!

Diaper Bags

{1} Cinda b Babe-A-Licious Baby Bag w Changing Pad - This is my favorite, and the one that I am using now. It is very light, and I love the bottle pockets on the ends. The long strap is also perfect for hanging on a stroller. I do keep the changing pad in the bag since it is also very light.

{2} Dwell Studio Chocolate Dots Madison Diaper Bag - This was the bag I bought right before Charlotte got here. I like the way it looks, and thought is was less "diaper baggy" looking. It does have great interior pockets, but a con is the straps. They won't hang on a stroller.

{3} Amy Butler Diaper Bag - I am actually a retailer, and can order Amy Butler bags if anyone's interested! This was the very first bag I ordered. Yes, I have three diaper bags... I saw this line at the Mart a few years ago, and fell in love with the fabrics. This bag is great because it's big, and it does have separate little straps that hook over a stroller handle. It does come with the changing pad, but I didn't usually keep it in the bag because it's really big. I used the bag in the very beginning because of it's size. When we took Charlotte places, we took everything we owned. Over time, I wanted a smaller bag, but for some reason #2 bag didn't cut it. So, that's where #1 came into the picture. And back to the Amy Butler bag, it's still great for travel and trips.

{4} Skip Hop Diaper Bag - I do not have this one, but a friend has it in black. She loves it for the pockets as well. I think it also has a good stroller strap.

You can find all of these bags online, but I did get #1 Cinda b bag at Serendipity in Griffin. There are other patterns and bags, sort of similar to Vera Bradley.

Random Interiors

Some bloggers post photos from their iphones. These are some pictures I had saved on my computer. Before Pinterest, back in the day, I used to save pictures I liked from the web to my computer. I would create all sorts of folders to organize them. If I wanted to remember where the photo came from, I would have to type the website in the file name. Hard to believe I did all of that. :) Just kidding, but it is great that we have Pinterest now.

I actually can't remember if I found this pic online, or took it myself at the Mart. Anyway, I like it. Maybe one day I will have a horse head to hang all of my old ribbons on.

I told you that these pictures are random. Love this room below. I am a big fan of neutrals, and love the pop of color in the art. If I did a zebra print, it would definitely be like the chairs.

Something today with animal heads on the walls? Cute bedroom for a girl.

I remember saving these placemats thinking that I could make some. Let me pin that on my "still to-do" board.

Another cute bedroom.

I know this last picture is from an old Coastal Living. The room may have been designed by Suzanne Kasler. {You may recognize her name from Ballard Designs}

Like this little desk and mirror.

This kitchen is from Urban Grace Interiors. One day I want to cut an opening in the wall between our kitchen and family room.

That is all for today's photo dump.

Coastal Living Idea House

Sunday, August 19, 2012

One word...AWESOME! I will have to admit, I seem to love all Idea Houses that I see. I think it started with the Cooking Light House at Serenbe, which is south of Atlanta. That was probably around 2005-2007, can't remember.
Then, there was the first Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Ga. I wrote some posts about it on the old blog. You can read them here & here.
Right now, you can tour the 2012 Southern Living Idea House in Senoia! I went earlier in the summer, and of course, I loved it too! They renovated and added on to an older home. It was great to see how they kept the character of the original house..

You can find more info on it here.  I believe it runs through December, and the Christmas decor should be out soon!
My most recent idea house was the Coastal Living Idea House! I think they actually call it the Ultimate Beach House. Last week we were in Seaside, Florida for a vacation with some friends. While there, we drove down to Rosemary Beach to see the house. The interior was designed by Erika Powell and her company, Urban Grace Interiors. I love her work, and knew that the house would be fabulous.

This is our picture of the front. I love the front door color.

What beach house would be complete without a pool?

I took a ton of pictures, but don't know if I should post them now. I will show you this one below. I was able to afford one thing from the house.

See the towels in the bags? This is the mud room, and I immediately loved the towels. They are a pretty, soft fabric on one side, and terry on the other.  I like to get worked up over dumb things. I probably annoyed Christine while I obsessed over these for the next two hours that we were in Rosemary.

Turns out, they are made by a lady in Rosemary. I searched a few shops, and asked around until I found one that put me in contact with her. Turns out she also has a website where you can order.

Tilly Towels are so great! I got a large one in cream, and a baby towel.
You can find them here.

I would definitely check out the houses in Rosemary and/or Senoia if you are in the area!

Rikshaw Design

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

I recently saw some of these clothes in a kids shop. The company is Rikshaw Design. They also have clothes for women and girls. They have the cutest fabrics.

My favorite is the Kurta top for babies. Charlotte definitely needs one in the seahorse fabric.

And the bloomers are super sweet.

They also have diaper pouches.

And bibs and burp cloths.

I also read on their site that you can order fabrics by the yard. These would be great for a nursery!

Pinterest Inspired Organizing

Friday, August 10, 2012

While I'm thinking about kitchens, I thought I would post this. I saw this picture on Pinterest, and got excited. This is what happens when as you get older I guess. Getting pumped about cleaning and organizing refrigerators!

This pic was pinned by hellobee, and it came from One Good Thing blog. She goes through her cleaning process, and tells about her cute little bins.

This is on my "to do" list. Recently, I found some great plastic shelves from Roses. They are on the shelves in our laundry room. I am all about finding ways to organize so things don't get lost in the mess.  Most of the time our fridge is filled with old things that are pushed to the back!

Happy Friday!

Chalk Boards

Thursday, August 9, 2012

I have been wanting to come up with something new for our kitchen. We have one blank wall that is screaming for a message center. Right now, I have a small, burlap covered cork board. You can see it in my old post here.

All of these pictures can be found on my "Kitchen Ideas" board on Pinterest.

I like this one below with the metal on the top, and chalk board on the bottom. We could do something similar since we have a chair rail. I do want to be able to hang pictures up, so need either magnets or a cork area.

I am also considering magnetic chalk board paint.

I love the trim around this one below.

The rustic wood looks good too. I just need to get a miter saw and start making these!

I do also like the idea of painting that entire wall.

Or, we could do a few separate boards like this below.

Another one with good trim. If you click this one on Pinterest, it will tell you how to make.

This is on my project list!
