DIY Burp Cloths

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Recently, I pulled the old sewing machine out, and tried my hand at making some "baby stuff." Turns out burp cloths are pretty easy to make, so I made a ton. Here are a few that I made, and kept. I also made some that are in my booth at Shop@11th.

The top one below is made from extra nursery fabric. These are also great for using scraps of leftover fabrics. I added little ribbon tags just because I like ribbon, and have a ton!

I found all of my fabrics at Joann Fabric in Brunswick. I also made a stroller blanket that clips on the carseat, so it's easy to move around while walking.

Here's what you will need if you want to make some too!

{1} cloth diapers - I have some of the thicker ones, probably from Babies R Us, and some thinner ones from Wal-Mart. You can find similar ones here and here

{2} fabric - I bought 1/4 yard of each fabric, and that it enough to make two of these

{3} matching thread - can find at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Joann

{4} sewing machine

{5} iron

First, I measured the thicker, center portion of the cloth diapers. Then I cut the fabric to allow about a half inch hem on each side. Next, I ironed the seams down to make it easier to sew a straight line. After your thread is ready in the sewing machine, it's super fast to sew the cute fabric onto the diaper.

My sewing skills are very basic, so these are definitely quick and easy to make!
